About Andrea Cox

Andrea Cox is an emerging mixed media artist born in Buckinghamshire, now residing in West Sussex. She has completed a Foundation Diploma in Art and Design at West Dean College of Art and Conservation; and is in her final year of a BA (Hons) Fine Art with the Interactive Design Institute and the University of Hertfordshire.

A curious nature has meant extensive global travel enabling her to absorb biodiverse environments, which in turn provide inspirational memories informing her creativity.

Her work embraces many traditional fine art techniques in conjunction with new technology and media, whilst aiming to be environmentally friendly by using recycled products and plant-based pigments whenever possible.

She is inspired by two quotes,

'The tree which moves some to tears of joy is in the eyes of others only a green thing that stands in the way.

Some see Nature all ridicule and deformity...and some scarce see Nature at all. But to the eyes of a man of

                Imagination, Nature is Imagination itself.'

                                                                                                                                                                       William Blake

‘Art is basic to creating a survival ethic by leading us to evaluate a meaningful existence.'

                                                                                                                                                                                           Huey D. Johnson, 1970

Concerned with the results of climate change she aims to highlight the beauty present in the natural world, juxta positioned with the decay and loss caused by human misuse.

She believes nature has an innate strength for survival but feels human interventions have placed overpowering stresses on the natural world, resulting in irrevocable damage to biodiverse species.

Exploration of these issues is expressed throughout her work with early projects investigating the science within nature, whilst more recent projects reflect the interaction between man and nature with both negative and positive aspects.

Combining traditional art with textile techniques she focuses on the demise of our natural environment by human means. Her most recent series of works 'Digital Destruction' and 'Augmented Forms'. the artist raises awareness of the decline in plants on our planet. The artists interest in the effects of climate change has been poignantly expressed in her video piece 'Melting Ice World'.
